Human Race Continues to Disappoint
What's the world coming to?
First they tell me they're doin' a remake of one of my all-time fave flicks that demands to remain untouched, Clash of the Titans. Now I find out Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago has just signed on with Elias Arts to compose tunes for TV ads. Actually, I'm sure he's makin' good money and he deserves it. If anything, I'd much rather see somebody like him write a song that's intended for the purpose of advertising, than hear other music he's written be degraded by use in an ad.
Maybe it's just the "Sponsored by Nobody" Neil Young influence, but I really do hate hearing songs I dig in commercials. Still, I think my natural anti-commercial inclination is becoming an anomaly as more and more people wittingly engage in marketing. I wrote an extensive essay about it recently, in fact, called Sales Pitch Society II.
