Anti-Bloomberg Trans Fat Laden Brunch
My belly's processing a yummy breakfast I made this morning as a post rock 'n' roll show hangover cure. It turned out pretty damn tasty if I do say so myself. We watched Xavier Renegade Angel (totally fucked up new animated show from the amazing folks who brought us the also fucked up Wonder Showzen), and munched on potatoes, frittata, toasted pita and bacon (for the boys).
I've developed the potato recipe over the years. Today I fried up garlic (usually I add chopped onion, too, but didn't have any onions), cumin seeds and sesame seeds in olive oil and a little sesame oil, tossed in chopped taters, and seasoned with salt and pepper, cumin, cayenne and a little hot sauce. I melted some cheddar on top, but there's no need to do that really.
For the frittata, I sauteed garlic in olive oil and butter, added in chopped bell pepper, asparagus and cherry tomatoes, and some fresh dill and tarragon. Next came the eggs (whisked with half and half and salt and pepper). When it was mostly cooked, I added crumbled feta on top. Pretty yummy.

Now the bacon eaters are downstairs jammin out. The drums are shaking the floor up here; the computer desk is directly above the studio/comic book lair. It doesn't sound half bad. Now they're playin' their own tunes as opposed to the lame Replacements and Sabbath covers they were doin' before.
Last night we saw Mission of Burma at the relatively new Williamsburg Music Hall (the old North Six). They were incredible as always. Really. They're always amazing. They played a lot of tunes off of their most recent release, Obliterati, along with some new songs I'd never heard before and standards like Academy Fight Song. No That's When I Reach for My Revolver, though, much to the dismay of the dude standing next to me. One fun surprise: a raucous cover of MC5's Looking at You featuring Roger Miller's brother Ben on sax. His band, Third Border, opened. We caught the last few songs of their set and I liked it a lot -- good, artsy, noisy rock not unlike Mission.
