The Legendary Stratford Survivahs

It's always bitter sweet to stumble onto a band that's long since broken up. This one makes me especially happy, though. It's Mike Czekaj of Live Ones fame's early 80s band, The Stratford Survivors. I really dig 'em, particularly this tune "Need Your Love" which I've been kinda addicted to the past few weeks. I gotta convince Mike and the Live Ones gang to cover this one. It's super catchy. Oh, and seein' old pics of Mike is pretty entertaining, too....

And dig this awesome quote from Bob Stinson in a 1984 issue of Matter Magazine about the Survivors:

"There's this one band I really like from Alabama called Carnival Season. They're a good, really young pop band and they're excellent musicians. And then there's this other band called THE STRATFORD SURVIVORS from Connecticut...God those are the only two I really like; you couldn't help but like 'em, they were just that good."

Me 'n' the Curly Mustache Guy

If yer among the unlucky chumps who haven't gotten the chance to check out a Saturday afternoon Passout Records show, this may be yer big day. Pee Wee 'n' the gang are puttin' up video clips of shows on their site now (well, MySpace for now and eventually their new site).

Anyway, last Saturday Live Fast Die played a great set, including a bunch of tunes they never play because Ethan's band never knows half his songs. He seems to like it that way, too. I guess it adds to the whole fuck-it-all charm of LFD. They played one of their best, "Pissin' on the Mainframe," along with a couple other ditties that made it into the clip. I'm actually visible toward the end of the last tune, "Troglodyte City," but my annoying "yeahs" and "whooos" are audible throughout. I'm standing to the right of the dude with the stupid curly mustache.
