VH Reunites: I'll Believe When I See It

OK, so somebody with an apparent Van Halen connection says that VH will be gettin' back together with DLR for a U.S. tour. Hey man, if they actually play and they tour long enough to get to the east coast before they kill eachother, I'll be at at least two shows in the tri-state area. But, how many times have they threatened a reunion at this point?

People are speculating that Eddie's kid, Wolfie, will play bass because Michael Anthony's stirred up some bad blood since he's been playing with Sammy Hagar as "The Other Half." Wolfgang supposedly is an amazing bassist (among other things) according to a recent call-in from Eddie on Stern during which Eddie referred to his son as "dangerous" about eight million times.

Who knows? Maybe post-cancer Eddie can get along with an ego-deflated, post-radio show Roth. Still, I won't believe it till I walk out of the show after they've played a full set.

Hope Ya Got Whatcha Paid For

Memphis Mike posted some pics from the last Passout Records show we were at, featuring The Live Ones in their newest iteration, with another new bassist. Anyway, sometimes Jon asks if I wanna sing backups for their tune, Got What You Wanted, and I'm happy to oblige (even if the mic never picks me up 'cause I'm a tad short and don't want to mess up his set up). That's me in my slowly deteriorating Roger's Juke Joint shirt ('member Coney Island High?)....

That's Jon to my left, in the background is the maestro, Mike on drums and lead vocals, and Shane on bass in the lumberjack gear.

Go Get Shtuffed

A friend of ours is comin' over tomorrow, and he really digs my homemade dolmas (a.k.a. stuffed grape leaves). I make 'em veggie, so they're perfect for him 'cause he's one of them damn vegans. Now, I've been without meat or fish for over half my life at this point, but give up cheese? Nuh uh.

Anyway, making dolmas is a fairly intensive process, but well worth it. I use a great recipe from a vegetarian Armenian cookbook I've had for a few years that's packed with great recipes. These taste a helluva a lot better than the stuff you'll get at the corner falafel joint.

Oh -- and if you're planning a special meal, heat the dolmas in this incredible egg lemon sauce for an amazing, rich side dish. I had them prepared this way for the first time in Lesvos about five years ago and was blown away.

So, I snapped a few shots this morning while assembling the dolmas after preparing the filling last night. The filling is a mixture of rice, red pepper, scallions, parsley, mint, walnuts, tomatoes, lemon juice, olive oil and salt. Luckily I live in an area highly populated with middle easterners, so picking up a jar of grape leaves ain't no thang.

You may notice that some of the final dolmas have some dark patches, which is really 'cause I should have taken them off the stove a little earlier then I did, but it really doesn't affect the texture or taste at all (plus it adds to that homemade appeal)....

Back Up

I guess the pissed off note I wrote to NameSecure Thursday worked, 'cause the site's back up. Shweeet.

NameSecure Sucks

The PunkRockKitchen.com site has been down for almost a week now, and I'm pretty sure NameSecure's to blame. I'm taking a moment out of my valuable morning time to bitch about them since they've been dicking me around for days now, making it impossible for me to access the domain. First off, they never sent a notification that the domain had lapsed, and now that I've renewed it, I can't actually access it to tell it to point to the right page, so the damn site doesn't work.

Plus, there's no way of reaching them by phone from what I can tell.

Pissed? Yeah, you could say that.
