So Long, Link

Well, they finally let one of the good ones live a pretty long life. But, sadly, Link Wray passed away November 5 in his home in Copenhagen, Denmark. From the message posted by his wife on his official site, it seems like he died in his sleep.

I first got into Link about 10 years ago or so, and was lucky enough to see him play 3 or 4 times. Sure, he was gettin' up there, and during the last show I caught him at at Maxwell's in Hoboken, it was noticeable, but the guy had more heart and soul and fuckin' life in him than folks half his age. The world has lost one of its greatest guitarists, that's for sure.

Punk Rock Kitchen HQ Before 'n' After

The Punk Rock Kitchen makeover is officially just about complete. So, here are some before and after shots. *Note, these results are not typical. Individual results may vary.

We Got a Live One Heeeah

Can you tell I was pissed off the other day when I wrote that last post? No worries: I don't hate all people.

OK, so I've been lookin' through the shots we took the other week at The Live Ones show at Trash Bar. I've isolated a few I can tolerate (they're supposed to be for the cover of their upcoming album), but I'm so goddam unphotogenic! Plus, I look faaaaaat in all of 'em, of course. UGH! But, there are a few I kinda like despite my pathetic vanity issues. After they see the few that are decent, they'll probably change their minds about wanting me as their cover chick!

This is a definite outtake, but it totally cracks me up. I have no clue who this dude is, but I love how the red eye effect makes it look like he's burning a hole in my head:

I Hate People

They Hate Me!

Not only a great ditty by the Anti-Nowhere League, covered by the New Bomb Turks, but also my sentiments exactly.

Piss off.

Zed Zed Top Tonight!

Born under a good sign? Could be. Last night I'm sittin' on the couch, readin' the paper and minding my own bitness, when Steve remembers he had the chance to win tix to see ZZ Top tonight at the Beacon Theater. Guess what? He got 'em! We're goin' to see ZZ Top tonight! I can't wait, man! I looooove ZZ Top (didn't know they we're playing or I would have got tix anyway). I think it's just one of those shows where they play stuff from their whole catalogue -- not touring with a new album or anything -- so, I'm especially psyched. I hope they play my fave: Francine!

Weekend Warriors Come out and Plaaaayaaay

Wow, was it gorgeous around these parts this weekend. We made the most of it, too. (Well for not-so-outdoorsy types, anyway). Friday, after a way too long hiatus, we got our Live Ones fix at Trash Bar in B'lyn. They were great as always, and appear to be garnering a bit more of a much-deserved following. We also finally got down to photo bitness, too, since those guys want a shot of me on the cover of their album. Yes, they are clearly insane. But, hey, I'm a ham, so I can't say no to that! When I get my shit together I might put up a shot or two. Next on the live rock agenda: The Dwarves this Friday.

Saturday was jam-packed, too. I finally got the chance to put stuff back up on the walls in the newly-renovated Punk Rock Kitchen (Jersey City HQ). It's lookin' purty damn good if I don't say so myself. After doin' that 'round-the-house shtuff, it was time to kick back and knock back some alkyhol. Our friend Nicole joined us for a backyard fire pit extravaganza. The meat-eaters got roasted weenies, and we all shared some tasty s'mores. Awww yeah.

Sunday was another amazing day weather-wise, and I managed to get through a few sections of the paper before dozing off in the hammock.

Shite

Ugh! We had plans to see Crimson Sweet play with the always slinky, slimy, down 'n' dirtay Demolition Doll Rods on Friday but just got a note from Jon of The Live Ones that they're playin' that night. My allegiance is with The Ones, so I gotsta hit that show. It sucks though cause I really like Crimson Sweet (they're also like the coolest, nicest people, too) and always have a blast watching the Doll Rods.

Aww shucks.

Anyway, last night was fun. We went to a Halloween party at our friend Sandi's cramped but cozy apartment. Got to hear some of my fave '80s tunes including Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears and No Can Do by the mighty Hall 'n' Oats. Shweet. I got wicked drunk but amazingly no hangover today.
